Congratulations!

Congratulations!

You have won Bitcoin, the strongest money in the world!

1st: 250,000 sats (0.0025 bitcoin)

2nd: 150,000 sats (0.0015 bitcoin)

3rd: 75,000 sats (0.00075 bitcoin)

“Sats” are the smallest unit of bitcoin, like cents are to dollars. You can check the current dollar value of your prize with the Calculator at bitcoinprices.org

**Treat the USB stick you received like cash **

The stick is called an OpenDime and was generously donated by the Canadian company CoinKite ($23 value). The private key needed to spend the bitcoin is sealed within the stick. There is no way to recover it if the stick is lost!

To keep the bitcoin, you can either:

  1. Leave your OpenDime sealed and keep it safe. It should last for years. However, to repeat, if the stick is damaged or lost the bitcoin is gone forever.
  2. (Recommended) Unseal the OpenDime, download a Bitcoin ‘wallet’ app and transfer the bitcoin to it. This will give you 12 word backup that you can always use to access your bitcoin. I recommend Green: Bitcoin Wallet from Blockstream. It’s available in your App or Play store for mobile. Click here for detailed instructions.

If you would prefer to sell the bitcoin for dollars (sad!):

  1. Leave the OpenDime sealed and sell it to someone who wants bitcoin. (Whoever owns the stick owns the key to the bitcoin!)
  2. Follow step 2 above and then proceed to sell your bitcoin on an exchange like Bull Bitcoin or Shakepay. You will need to open an account with personal information, like at a bank.

Hold on to the Bitcoin

Any time I’m coaching someone who is purchasing bitcoin, I recommend they plan to hold it for at least 4 years. I likewise would suggest to you that holding on to your bitcoin prize for a bit is a good idea. At the very worst, you lose less than 90 bucks. Best case scenario, you end up with life changing money down the road. A bit more likely is that your prize doubles or triples over the next few years.

Do you think 5th-8th held on to see today’s price of ~$36,000 per bitcoin?
